It is common for a customer to ask for prices on a range of different quantities. For instance, 'Please quote me on pricing for 100,500,1000 stickers of the following design...'
M-Power provides two tools that help automate the quotation process. You can access these tools through the 'spanner tool' in the quote grid.
The tools are:
- Price Breaks Tool - This tool recalculates the price for each quantity break you enter using the current recipe calculator for the current quote. It works the same as pressing the calculator button, entering a new quantity and pressing the [insert/update] button. Because it is simply calculating a new price for each quantity, changing the recipe will change the other prices too.
- Copy Line Tool - this tool copies the current quote line and creates a new recipe that you can then adjust to reflect the changes that may be required at each quantity break - for instance outwork costs
Guidelines for Choosing the Appropriate Tool
Here are some guidelines to select the tool
1. Prices are completely proportional to the quantity
The only variable in the pricing process is the quantity; adjusting the quantity will proportionally recalculate all materials and operations to create the required price.
In this case Price Breaks are the correct choice.
2. Prices require custom overrides
Prices are based on the same elements but require specific pricing of either materials or processes based on the quantity required. An example of this would be a product that requires a custom material or outwork process where the supplier has provided specific pricing for each quantity required.
In this case Copy Line is the correct choice.
In each case you start with a single quote line and adjust as required for the first quantity you want to offer. Once this is done you can then choose how to create the other prices from this line using the spanner icon in the price line.
Price Breaks
When using price breaks, a single recipe is used and is automatically adjusted for each supplied quantity to generate the price and insert this price into the quote grid. When you click Price Breaks a dialog is shown requesting the quantities you want to add based on the current line. Enter your quantites separated by commas as shown in the dialog.
Upon clicking Create Price Breaks, the recipe will be run with each supplied quantity and the resulting price inserted into thte grid.
Note that if your recipe includes an Material or Operation overrides these will take precedence and not be adjusted by the quantity. This can result in an incorrect price if you have for instance set an override quantity for a material. Adding a price break with a much higher quantity will not include all of the material required for that quantity as you have bascially locked the quantity for that row.
Copy Line
When using the copy line the current line and its related recipe are copied. You now have a new line and distinct recipe allowing you complete customisation of all elements of this product and resulting price.
To edit the line, first adjust the line quantity to the new quantity as shown below.
Then adjust the quantity and click the Tick button to save
Click Recalulate using calulator to update the recipe to use the new quantity
Now you can edit the recipe as normal using the Calculator button
Edit the recipe as required, then click the Insert/Update button to save your changes and update the grid line.
